Galway City & Latin Quarter

After a wet evening yesterday we woke to patchy blue skies over Galway. Our BnB was small but comfortable and the breakfast great.

I reserved a table in Monroe’s Tavern for dinner which was a blessing as the place was packed when we arrived.

We were able to dodge the rain showers throughout the day with coffee shops and ice cream stops. You have to try the Dingle Gin Ice Cream, one litre of gin goes into the 5-litre tub. They are not allowed to serve it to underage folk!

The Galway Market was either quite tiny or just not very well attended today probably due to the weather and the fact that the local team were playing a huge game of Gaelic football between Galway & Mayo both teams in often feature in the semi-finals of the cup.

We had dinner in the Kings Head last night and tried their local brew as well. The place is steeped in history and very original inside. Photos not so good at night sorry. The food was ok and they were very busy.

Dinner was in Monroe’s and when we walked in, the place was full. Full of football fans watching the game on the TV screens.

Dinner was very nice here and the atmosphere was great, helped by some live music.

If you go to Galway you can’t miss the Latin Quarter. It’s full of pubs, cafe’s, bar’s restaurants, shops, entertainers and much more. Basically, it is a colourful lively area.

Our BnB was just over the bridge and ten minutes walk from town, ideal for us and recommended.
